Initiative Goals:

Collaborate with rural communities to shape safety messaging, outreach, and engagement strategies that reflect their realities and behaviors.
Reduce the behaviors most strongly linked to fatal and serious-injury outcomes on rural roads — specifically speed, impairment, distraction, and seat belt non-use.
Strengthen rural post-crash survivability by identifying barriers and opportunities for faster detection, location, response, and transport.

Idaho’s rural roads are more than scenic, these roads carry farmers to their fields, families to town, and goods to the communities that depend on them. The wide skies and long stretches of road can make it tempting to speed up or zone out, but Idaho’s rural roads are unpredictable.

Sharp curves, limited visibility, slower-moving vehicles, equipment, or even livestock can appear without warning. In remote areas where emergency response times are longer, crashes can have greater impacts.

Out here, mindful driving is more than a habit, it’s an expectation that we’ll all look out for each other.
